Robin, when you feel the itch pay attention because it means something. Most of us should understand that our homespace decor should evolve the same as we do. Otherwise, we are not honoring ourselves in the highest way we can in our homes. My homespace has certainly changed over the years. In fact, it is light years away from what it looked like in my early years. This isn't because of income changes at all. Instead it is because it now better reflects the real me. I don't decorate the way the trends in my industry preach or become influenced by anyone else. I decorate from heart and intuition. It makes all the difference in creating a comfy, cozy sanctuary! Enjoy your new chapter of life!

Joy, what a wonderful way to express the term "challenge". You definitely put a positive slant on the term and that of course makes the challenge all the more fun when you approach it will love! I so love the imagery you have given me in how you describe "The Forest". What a wonderfully creative thing to do. And without a doubt it must be an incredibly positive impact statement for your fireplace and your entire homepace! Thanks so much for sharing!

I am so glad you got a smile! Funny too, I mention the wall of photos in my family home in the post that comes out next week so be sure to read it - you will smile all over again. When we six siblings closed up the house last year for good we of course dismantled the wall of family photos. Seriously, it might have been the toughest part of the whole ordeal for me as that wall was the focal point of our home. All the collage of pictures spoke volumes of what my family stood for ~ family first! I am glad to say that I live my life knowing the importance of home and family. I thank my parents for that. And you are so right, my family home was a wonderful gathering place for so many people. Oh boy, the memories are rich for sure. Cannot wait to get together again...

Jamie - I am feeling an itch to change my surroundings to reflect where I am right now; and this will be a great tool to visually show this. Thanks!

Decorating for me really is a loving challenge. We recently built our dream home. One of the challenges is a fireplace mantle 7 x 3 in depth. I finally put a bunch of artificial trees up there and made a woodsy scene with lighted cabin lamp base, log house picture frame and tiny outhouse found at Goodwill. Threw in a small family of deer and people seem to love the "forest" as they call it. Scale is real important here. Twice a year it all comes down to be refreshed and cleaned. Keep looking for a different idea, but in 5 years it is still "The Forest". Joy Stark

Hey - I had to give a huge smile at the "wall of family life." It so reminds me of the home where you grew up and where we all had some great childhood and teenage memories! Love you and hope to see you soon!

Yep Joy, Gary cracked me up as well. Gary (Lumsden) is one of my dearest friends from "the growing up years". He had a dry sense of humor then and still does today. It probably serves him well as an attorney! Gary, if you are reading this - thanks for making Joy's day! And Joy, what a wonderful comment to make about your Gary and the love and support you get from him. The power of love is incredible for sure - it creates a safe and secure space in your heart for true peace and harmony. I read a wonderful quote while swimming laps at the pool the other day and it has stuck with me:
"Human emotions come and go, but commitment is rock solid."
That statement says it all. True, everlasting love is all about the commitment, not about the emotions. I am so happy that you have found this for yourself in such a loving spouse! Celebrate the month of love together and every day after in the same way - with peace and contentment!

Hi Jamie: Lumsden's comment cracked me up, boy do I know the feeling of a part of you rebelling. the part of me that rebels is the brain, it try's to talk the body out of going out at all, using the weather as an excuse. If my Gary encourages me however I do go and try to smile about it. This being heart month, I realize my biggest asset is the love and support I get from my spouse. That love brings me peace and contentment and of course urgently nudges me to get up and go. The Will feels ticked off (my words if in print) but it will get over it. Joy Stark
